In Review...

Wow! I have to do another post of random things because there's just so much I want to say right this minute. And it's already almost midnight - yikes!

First, to Grunty and Chubbs mom especially, in the wordless Wednesday post, my lil Maggie is wearing some heavy duty fleecy purse on her head. She put it there. By the time she took it off (nearly an hour later), her head was a sweaty mess, but she was still happy. In her hands are a baseball mitt and pink baseball. The whole thing was at Emma and Celia's house, friends of ours (okay, Denise's house too, if moms count in all this :D ).

I spent most of today going to a chocolatier meeting. The meeting was just four hours or so, but it was four hours away...so that meant just over 12 hours away from home for me. Why am I still up since waking at 5:00 AM to get there on time? Because I'm hyped, that's why! Ready to go out and share all Dove's fabulous exclusive home show products and recipes with the world and give them away to one hostess at a time :D I love how many different people are involved in this business, and all have the potential to be completely successful for different reasons. It's a great opportunity and I'm happy to be a part of it :)

Since screaming out to the universe in my whiney-ass post yesterday, things are starting to fall back into place. I got a random email from my previous employer just saying they haven't forgotten about me, and info from two other employers that there's some work for me over the course of the next couple months. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, right? I was apparently squeaking loudly enough yesterday!

Last but not least, please toss a few extra positive thoughts our way to get rid of lil Maggie's annoying lil cough. She hardly ever gets sick, which is good and bad. Good for obvious reasons, but bad because it stresses me out if she even sniffles since she's usually so healthy! And there is no cough medicine to give a two-year-old. It doesn't seem to be slowing her down at all, but it makes me worry :(

I hope your weekend has improved as quickly as mine, or been fabulous from the start!

10 Random Things for a Friday

  1. I should warn you now - I'm in the middle of a pity party. If this will annoy you as much as it's annoying me, back out now. I'll understand.
  2. I'm absolutely in despair about money all of a sudden. I got the pre-auth for some dental work...and I should be coming up with $880 for co-pays and uncovered stuff. Without a regular income. Yeah. I'll get right on that.
  3. To add insult to injury? I was looking forward to going to a meeting out of state tomorrow, but I can't really justify the expense...so I looked at our funds left until payday anyway...and I wouldn't even have enough to pay for my gas there and back. Huge bummer :(
  4. I've had a bunch of medical stuff that will come to a head at the end of next week, but not be 'fully' resolved for possibly two weeks after that. And I've been dealing with it all essentially all summer. Ugh.
  5. It's rainy and dreary. Usually I don't mind, but today I just feel like crawling back in bed (which isn't advisable when home with a toddler!).
  6. I was supposed to go out and get the VIN off of a vehicle we're selling, but I slacked off on that because of the rain. I'd be uncomfortable and it'd be hard to read.
  7. I'm not even pity-full enough for a whole post. I'm only about 65% full of pity, apparently.
  8. Blah...
  9. Blah....
  10. Blah.....

Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

Wow. I can't even believe it's only Tuesday. Things are crazy around here, but I don't really want to get into it just yet. Hopefully a lot of it will resolve tomorrow afternoon.

I've got my fingers crossed that I'll win the last Blog Makeover Package from Custom Blog Designs. With the computer being my primary link to, well, nearly everything outside of my house, I'd love to be putting my best bloggy foot forward, you know? I really like the nifty little awards boxes she has at the bottom of her blogs. Sometimes I'm easily amused ;) Seriously, click through to here to try and win. Even though I'm planning on winning. Just sayin...

And my last couple of fingers are crossed for yet another job. The Walgreen's by my house was hiring, which inspired me to go apply through the website. Then it occurred to me that they have 24-hour stores. How cool would it be to get a pharmacy tech job (no, I've never done it before, but I love attention to detail..) at night? Anyone know of any experiences working with Walgreen's? Let me know!

Baby Maggie is still fighting a little bit of a cough. She's coughed twice in the two hours since I've put her down. I always want to go check on her then, but that would just be asking for trouble. Seriously.

Tomorrow night is the local Yelp Elite meet-up at a local winery! Fun and free swag - what more could we ask for on a grown-up night out?

And...sleep!

Maggie has this delightful little game she plays. First she demands to be holding her kazoo while we're driving somewhere. Then, she'll pick someone in the car (even if the driver is the only other one in the car) and she'll say, "Sleep!" Then the person who has been told to sleep should start snoring. Finally, Maggie will play the kazoo loudly until the 'sleeping' one wakes up startled. Yeah...good times :)

After all of our running around today, I don't need to be told to sleep, although after all the party buffets, I may need to know the best weight loss pill.

I'll worry about that tomorrow. For now, in the words of Maggie, "Mommy, sleep!"

10 Random Things for a Friday

  1. Before I forget, I'm in a fantasy football league and know a little less than nothing about football. Anyone in particular I should be trying to get in the draft?
  2. I wish the weather would cool off just a bit so Maggie could wear her awesome pink sweater with the fuzz around the hood and cuffs. She's too young to suffer for fashion, so it will have to be less than 80 degrees out before I dress her in heavy knits ;)
  3. My washer and dryer are both EMPTY right now! Woo-hoo!
  4. My hair is already getting too long to style. Grr.... Hopefully I can at least get it to look presentable tomorrow since we've got two different parties to go to.
  5. I see some chocolate candy making in my future! I have some of our new gingerbread sucker molds and some of our new reusable textured transfer sheets that I haven't yet used. I want samples from both for my parties coming up :)
  6. Writing can be incredibly emotionally draining. I'm hoping it feels better once I finish. I'm trying to write about some stuff I'd rather not discuss, and the reliving is kicking my butt! I feel like I could sleep for a week already :(
  7. I actually got some stuff picked up in my office this week. Baby steps...baby steps...
  8. Maggie slept through the night last night - yay! Hopefully she's back to her old ways of sleeping 12 hours each night without interruption.
  9. My cat has the most matted back ever. We need to get her to the groomer again. Anyone willing to book a chocolate show so I can pay for that? Hahaha...
  10. Does it officially mean I'm old if I'm contemplating going to bed early because it's Friday and I made it through the week?

Yay!! Another Friday!!

Free Chocolate Friday!! Thanks, Mars! And now, a few words from the generous folks at Mars, who are giving free chocolate to another 250,000 lucky folks today:

How to Spot Fake Chocolate:

A telltale sign is the wording on the packaging. For 100% real, authentic chocolate, look for the words "milk chocolate," "Semi-sweet chocolate" or "Bittersweet chocolate." On the other hand, it's probably not real if you see the words, "chocolate flavor," "chocolate coating," "chocolaty," or "made with chocolate." And beware of packaging that implies chocolate, but doesn't even mention it.. Would it be cheaper for us to use vegetable oil? Yes. Would it be real chocolate? No. The next time you're choosing your chocolate, check the label. Chances are you could be getting something that's, well, fake. If it's Mars, you know it's real chocolate.

What can you count on your chocolate lady for if not free chocolate, right?
Additionally, starting in September I'll be sending out a monthly newsletter about new developments, products and other fun stuff over at Dove (which, by the way, is part of Mars - so all the mouth-watering comments above still apply). Random Tuesday Thoughts

randomtuesday

We're up and going early (for us) this morning. Maggie is eating yogurt and cheerios, then I need to get cleaned up and we're meeting friends at the splash park :)

As I tried to organize just a few things around my office yesterday, I ran into more and more rubber stamp sets. I think I'll need to get super-crafty in a hurry (not likely) or start listing em up for a few bucks on eBay.

And the crafty bit reminds me that I need to see if the girl I met last fall still wants to get together and scrapbook this weekend.

Just about anywhere you walk into in the morning (bank, office, nice grocery store..) has free coffee. Why can't I get someone to mail me free Cherry Coke in the morning? It's the same theory, I think, except that coffee smells/tastes like butt (or how I'd imagine butt would smell/taste) and Cherry Coke is yummy, cool and refreshing!

Which reminds me I need to coax Maggie out of the car for a quick trip into 7-Eleven for a Cherry Coke on our way to the splash park. Sometimes this goes well, sometimes it doesn't.

Maybe I wouldn't wake up craving caffeine if Maggie didn't wake up craving who-knows-what...at 2 AM or so. Last night (or actually this morning) I spent a half hour just listing off everyone she knows, and everything else (dogs, trees, trains) as sleeping. She'd come up and ask about something or someone, and I'd tell her it was sleeping. Eventually I was able to talk her back into laying down, where she fussed for only a few more minutes before getting back to sleep.

Tonight? My brother-in-law's birthday with my mother-in-law's spaghetti! Dinner not made by me? Yay!

17 August 2009

Need an Outlet..

Gosh am I feeling frustrated. Maggie's sleep still isn't going as well as it used to, which makes me tired and more stressed no matter what else is going on. I was tempted to take her out for a walk tonight, but then I saw hubby sweating while working outside and decided I didn't want to get all melty in the heat and become a buffet for the mosquitoes. It's too bad there isn't some sort of treadmill where I can get some exercise and stress release and make Maggie do it along with me. Maybe we'd both feel better and be able to get a whole night's sleep. Maybe.
A girl can dream, right?

Use Your Influence for Good

As I’m sure you’re read around here a time or two, my primary business focus is currently (and has been at times previously) direct sales. This means that I work mostly from home. My home office is where I contact hostesses of my home shows, guests and customers who have purchased my company’s products, members of my team who want to learn how to successfully do what I do, and plenty of people who are a combination of these categories (guests becoming hostesses, hostesses becoming team members…). One of the biggest drawbacks to this type of business for me is that I’m one of those really weird people who enjoys sales meetings. Yeah, I know. I’m a freak of nature that way.

Since my current business is still relatively small, there aren’t a lot of meetings and trainings I can attend (with the major recent exception of our national conference last weekend). I love using articles like Become an Influencer to give me that extra inspirational boost and help me stay motivated and on-track with my business.

Some of the points in the article (like letting your boss know when you take care of the office plants or bring donuts) are obviously more applicable to a job outside of one’s home, but even these can be brought around to help your cause. A struggle working in the home is balancing household responsibilities with working the business. Make sure other family members realize that you do other things besides work on your business so they can’t say, “You’re always on the computer!” It’s common-sense – heaven forbid everyone runs out of clean underwear while you’re following up on leads!

The most universal point in the article was quite basically to have and project a positive attitude. Not only will it help you successfully complete the tasks of the job you’re actually doing, but it may also get the attention of others who are not necessarily your boss, but may be in a spot to better your position at some point. You never know how someone you’re interacting with today could influence your life down the road.

10 Random Things for a Friday

  1. If you're ever tempted to file and paint your toenails in front of the computer, while sitting on a pilates ball - DON'T. I just almost learned this lesson the hard way.
  2. I need to get my picture stuff together this week if I'm going to try to go scrapbooking on Friday night. Well, and if hubby's work schedule cooperates so I can get out of here at a reasonable hour...we'll have to wait and see. But that means I need to be prepared regardless.
  3. I really, really, really hope Maggie sleeps through the night tonight - in her crib. She's usually super cooperative, but there have been a couple nights this week worthy of do-overs.
  4. Oh, and tomorrow night? I really hope she's in the mood to co-sleep peacefully. Keep your fingers crossed...
  5. I don't know if you've ever noticed, but I'm really fond of ellipses...
  6. True story...
  7. I wanted to order one of the fancy Dove/Lands End logo shirts, but the sale ends today. I was hoping money would fall from the sky this afternoon to facilitate my purchase...no go, Flo.
  8. Hmm....after the few off nights this week, I can barely count to ten, much less think that many random thoughts. Sad, eh? After you have the baby (two years ago, here), the baby will continue eating your brain. Preggo brain? It's just something they say to reassure when you're pregnant. I don't think it every permanently goes away.
  9. The dryer is full of the baby's clothes...again. See, I never want to fold them when she's sleeping, because then the cat tries to lay on them while I can't get into her room to put them away. So they sit in the dryer until I can go in her room without risking waking her.
  10. A week ago? I was up til 3:00 AM having a blast with an old friend. You know the sort - you don't see each other for years but it's still a laugh-a-minute once you get together again? Good times, good times.

That's One Way to Dry a Tire Swing...

I have an adorable picture that would go really well here, but I don't know how to get it out of my phone's inbox. Yeah. I'm technologically advanced like that. As Maggie's little friend was getting ready to leave the other day, both kids were distracted by our tire swing by the front door. They proceeded to carry the little landscape rocks from around the house and put them in the bottom of the swing...displacing all the rain water that had collected there. The water was pretty skeevy looking to start with (what - it's not like we have pond filters in the bottom of our tire swing), and the rocks surely didn't improve it.

Later that night, poor hubby said, "What smells like a dirty lake?" And I remembered..."It's probably your daughter, dear." Oh the trouble we get into each day...

Haiku Friday!

A while since I
haiku'd - but the tradition
still continues on.

On It's a Jan's Life
you'll find new haikus Fridays.
How could I resist?

Luckily my girl
finally sleeps for her nap,
I can haiku now.

Guess What Day it is??

Free Chocolate Friday!! Thanks, Mars! And now, a few words from the generous folks at Mars, who are giving free chocolate to another 250,000 lucky folks today:

For nearly 100 years, we've made chocolate with 100% cocoa butter, which is the taste bud-craving, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate you expect from Mars. Without cocoa butter, chocolate simply is not chocolate.

Some companies use artificial ingredients to make their chocolate sweeter or because it's cheaper. Know that with Mars, there is no substitute for cocoa butter. We know you prefer Real Chocolate. And that's what we plan to deliver.

What can you count on your chocolate lady for if not free chocolate, right?
Additionally, starting in September I'll be sending out a monthly newsletter about new developments, products and other fun stuff over at Dove (which, by the way, is part of Mars - so all the mouth-watering comments above still apply). If you're interested, please send your name and email address to ILoveFreeChocolate at gmail.com with Chocolate Newsletter in the subject line.

She has Flax Golden Tales to Spin...

Maggie was going on and on the other night about Finding Nemo. I finally asked her if she'd keep telling us if Daddy got the camera, and she agreed. Here's what she told us after we started recording:
video

Beauty can be Ever Fleeting...

I had to laugh over the weekend (well, more than once). My friend who used to be decidedly low-maintenance admitted she's become high-maintenance in fighting the signs of aging. It hardly seems fair that only a few years past dealing with acne treatment and teen angst, we're left getting extra creams for wrinkles and age spots. C'mon, mother nature, give us a break already!

Tell Me Thursday

It's Tell Me Thursday!

I snuck both of the pictures from yesterday's Wordless Wednesday in a few minutes of unexpected free time! I was watching a friend's son (who is ten months older than Maggie) and I somehow got them both to nap at the same time! I thought it was going to be a day full of chasing one or the other, but they slept for two hours. What are the odds?

12 August 2009

Back to the Future?

This is so cool. Judi found it over at One Gals Musings. Just follow this link to create your own little person and scene.

I look pretty darn happy there. I wanted to find a dress like the one I just won from Shabby Apple, but they didn't have any nice striped numbers. The martini? Was a must, in my book :)

I wonder if that would be what I wore chasing Maggie around all day (in which case the glass had better be bottomless, if you know what I mean...). There were a few different 'scenes' to choose from, but none of them had kids. I suppose children weren't seen OR heard, eh?

Not to Complain...

Summer took its sweet time coming to Michigan this year (well, except for like a week that was hot a couple months ago). I was actually one of the few people not complaining I think. Now that it's hot again, I'm almost biting my tongue sometimes. Not because it's hot (I love that!) but because I don't have anything that fits right in hot weather! I used to wear tiny lil things, which looked fine before my body had given birth. Now? I'm in jeans most days because I only have a couple shorts or capris that look and feel good. Unfortunately (or is it fortunately?), I don't think exercise or diet pills are going to help much. There's just this skin that didn't used to be there...I know, ew.
I suppose in the scheme of things, it isn't really too much of a problem - glad we have air conditioning, and just about anywhere I go does too :)

Random Tuesday Thoughts

Believe it or not, I always dreamed of being Suzy Homemaker and having a beautifully clean and organized house. Why I can't force myself to live up to my own dream, I have no idea. And force Maggie to live up to it as well, since we're together all the time :)

Lots of thoughts and prayers for Emma R.'s family and many, many friends. She died this morning after a long battle with an aggressive form of leukemia. I believe she was still in high school, or may have just graduated.

I'm still high on Dove chocolate conference!! Brand new products include: Sea-Salted Caramel Collection (my personal favorite!), Milk Chocolate-Covered Cappuccino Biscottini, Dark Chocolate-Covered Fruit Collection, Mudslide Chocolatini Mix, and Chocolate Chip Gingerbread Mix (to make cookies or cake).
They've also made it so new chocolatiers can earn up to 60% commission in their first 30 days!! Wish they'd done this a year ago - I met all the qualifications and would have made nearly three times as much as I did! WOW! That's a lot of exclamation points!

Does anyone want some Similac Isomil Advance Soy Formula? I have a can I got in the mail when I had Maggie, that I'll obviously never use...the bottom of the can says it's good til February 2010. It's yours for the cost of shipping...

The dentist today told me I need a crown, and a bite splint. Fun times! They're checking to see how much these will cost me after insurance before I make appointments. Luckily I don't mind the dentist much.

My Newest Award

Thank you so much to Mommy Kennedy for this award! I just started following her blog in the last month or so and wish we lived closer - we'd certainly get along :)

"The Humane Award honors eight certain bloggers that I feel are kindhearted individuals. They regularly take part in my blog and always leave the sweetest comments. If it wasn’t for them, my site would just be an ordinary blog. Their blogs are also amazing and are tastefully done on a daily basis. I thank them and look forward to our growing friendships through the blog world. Link back to the person who gifted you with the award and share the love with other bloggers.”

The eight blogs I'd like to recognize with this award are:
LaShan at A Lil Enchanted
Judi at Where the Road Takes Us
Wendy at Rambling Unsettled Vagabond
Happy Caity
Becky at Beautifully Unique
Mom of 2...(taking it one day at a time)
Storm, the Psychotic Housewife at Confessions of a Psychotic Housewife
Shalampax Speaks (Although I'm not sure if they'd actually prefer an award proclaiming them 'shalampaxian'?)

I Made it!

I'm home safe and sound from Dove chocolate conference - more about all that yummy goodness later!

I was thrilled to get home and learn that Wednesday (before I'd technically left, but after I'd become physically unattached from my computer), I won the Apron Goddesses giveaway of a Shabby Apple dress!!

And the next day? Maggie and I got our picture up on the Apron Goddesses blog with the photo I'd sent in of us in our aprons for extra entries! I feel like it's all my ten minutes of fame :)

How exciting! I'll be sure and post pictures in the dress after I get it.

Tell Me Thursday

It's Tell Me Thursday!

Maggie had a ball at her birthday party a couple weeks ago. She had a great way of loving every present like it was the only one she'd gotten that day! After we had opened everything that was inside, we headed outside to see her new sand and water table from Mimi and Papa. They'd come a little early to have it all set up for her - and she was certainly ready to play with it!

Huh. I'm writing later and later lately. La-la-la....

What has happened to basic customer service? Why can I not get a return call from so many offices/businesses, even if it's just to say, "We don't have what you need yet." Give me SOMETHING to go on, people!

I should be packing for my chocolate gig tomorrow (I'll be at a Breast Cancer 3-Day fundraiser), but instead I'm sitting here trying to think random thoughts. Go figure.

Okay. I took a break from trying to think and packed my bag for tomorrow. Now back to thinking. Or at least trying to.

Oh yeah! I made $5 from Mindfield Online, and they showed me the money! I'll be able to grab myself a Cherry Coke to chill with during the fundraiser tomorrow. I love finding out some of these things are legit (oh, come on...you know what I mean...).

Monday Crazy Questions

1.The aliens have landed...they have invited you in for dinner....what do you think they are up to? Honestly, if they've invited ME for dinner, I think they're pretty bored. And depending on if they gave me any notice, I probably wouldn't be able to join them anyway, unless I already had a sitter lined up...

2. Remember that 20 dollar bill you found on the ground a few memes ago?? Ok you picked it up and someone comes to and says..hey that's mine...what do you say? Oh my goodness! Here you go - hold on to that a little more tightly!

3. you got offered a part in a movie... they will pay an enormous amount of money....but you have to play the town she slut/he slut.. do you play the part or do you refuse to compromise your values? Values don't buy me new shoes ;) It's just a movie - I'd probably go along and not even give it much thought.

4. Do you have a name for your private parts? Not really. Just 'bits.' Nice and generic.

5. You are driving north on Hell avenue and can only turn west on to hell Terrace. There is a car coming toward you on Hell avenue also, which also can only turn west onto Hell terrace. what does this prove?? I don't think it proves anything...I go where my GPS tells me, or I'm probably lost.

6. Where is the strangest place you ever did the deed? "That would be in the butt, Bob." Sorry. That's all I can ever think of when I hear that question. I think it was a quote from an old Newlyweds show?

7. Have you ever been caught doing the nasty...who caught you and where were you? I don't think so...
