Saturday 9: One Bad Apple

I was looking back at some older posts and memes I'd done in the past (so weird to flat out not recognize things I know I wrote! LOL).

Anyway, welcome back to Saturday 9 with Crazy Sam Winters! This week's theme is One Bad Apple, and is inspired by One Bad Apple (1971) by The Osmonds.

Here's the song history from the YouTube channel:

ONE BAD APPLE was originally offered to the Jackson 5. Due to scheduling conflicts, the Jackson 5 turned it down. It was then offered to the Osmonds. The rest is history. ONE BAD APPLE is one of the Osmonds greatest hits. Although the Osmonds sang Motown songs and performed dance routines, they are not the 'white' Jackson 5. They sang songs from several musical genres including country and heavier rock like 'Hold Her Tight' and 'Crazy Horses'. The Osmonds started performing on the Andy Williams Show in the early 1960s. Their performances included dance routines. So, in actuality, the Jackson 5 copied the Osmonds in 1965 by setting up a group made up of brothers and performing dance routines while singing. The Jackson 5 may never have happened without the influence of the Osmonds, and the Osmonds may never have been as successful without the influence of the Jackson 5. Both were great. End of story.

Now on to our nine questions:

1) This song is a play on the old saying that one bad apple can spoil the bunch, or that the bad behavior of one member can reflect badly on the whole group. Do you think that's true? Hmm...I absolutely think the bad behavior of one person can reflect on their whole group. To mix up my phrases, 'birds of a feather,' and all that. I tell my kids all the time that we all become like those people we spend the most time with, and that can be good or bad....

2) The Osmonds began as The Osmond Brothers, a barbershop quartet that performed at the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Today there are 9 Disney Resorts all around the world, as far away as Shanghai. Have you ever been to a Walt Disney property? I've been to the Disney Parks in Florida a few times. Getting ready to plan another trip there in a year or so (the first trip for my son!).

3) By the time the Osmonds made this record, Donny had joined the group and became their breakout star. Without looking it up, can you name any of the other four brothers who performed in video clip? That's a big nope from me.

4) In the 1970s, adolescent girls learned through teen magazines that Donny's favorite color is purple, and that he was especially fond of purple socks. Today, socks are a very big business. There are designer sock manufacturers and even a sock of the month club. Is there a wardrobe item you're very particular about? I don't know if I'd really say an item...but if I had to, it would be my hoodies and/or t-shirts. I guess I don't really have a lot of anything, and I tend to just keep my favorites and not hoard much more than that.

5) Donny and younger sister Marie had their own TV variety show. One regular segment had them performing a medley of popular songs, and it began with Marie singing, "I'm a little bit country," followed by Donny's musical reply, "I'm a little bit rock and roll." In this regard, are you more like sister or brother? Meh. I go a little bit either, but neither is really a favorite. I tend to like a little bit of everything, but most of what I have is from when I was gathering more things...the 80s. LOL

6) Donny's popularity continues today. Fans have seen him win Dancing with the Stars (season 9) and come in as a runner up on the first season of The Masked Singer. Do you watch either of these shows -- or other competition series, like American Idol, The Voice, America's Got Talent, etc.? I may catch a bit of an episode here and there, but we haven't had cable television in 15 years or so. Now you can stream pretty much anything, but we're out of the habit. I usually watch one show that I seek out, until it's done. The last show we watched through was Schitt's Creek (amazing!). I think the last reality tv-ish thing I watched all the way through was the Bret Michaels' show, Rock of Love. Hahaha...

7) Donny has also appeared on Broadway. He surprised audiences and got rave reviews as arrogant bad guy Gaston in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Tell us about a time when your behavior surprised those who know you well. Gosh. I really don't know. I think I'm pretty predictable?

8) Donny is also a grandfather, many times over! Sam admits she's not crazy about that revelation because it makes her feel old. What's something that makes you feel your years? My husband plays this great game where (since he's three years younger than me) he finds friends of ours (a lot of his friends are younger than me) that have parents closer to my age than our friends. LOL

9) Random question: We're filling a pinata with your favorite candies. What should we buy? Oh dear! I'm a bit of a sugar junky - wouldn't be hard to make me happy! I love Chewy Sprees, but they'd be tricky in a pinata. How about some of those great peppermint starlight hard candies, or Riesens, or Werthers hard candies.. I'm pretty much like Buddy the Elf - does that have sugar? Hahahaha...

Saturday 9: The Last DJ

Welcome to Saturday: 9. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

1. Who was favorite DJ and what radio station did you listen to as a kid?
I really don't remember. I do remember listening to metal in high school (most of which I don't like now!), but I don't know what station or DJ it was...

2. What has been the weirdest thing you have worn in public?
Nothing any weirder than everyone else in the 80s ;)

3. What was the best part of last weekend? Huh. I think since it's only Saturday night now, we're sort of half way through a weekend. The best part so far today was spending so much time with my hubby and kids :)

4. What was the most effective punishment for you as a kid? I don't remember being punished much as a kid. Honest - I was pretty good!

5. Would you lie to your significant other to not hurt their feelings? Probably not. He should be able to count on me for the truth, right?

6. We're taking you order for breakfast. What would you like? I've sort of had a thing for omelettes lately. Mushroom and cheese. With a side of hash browns, white toast, and crispy bacon.

7. Do you celebrate Halloween? If yes, do tell. If no, why not? Heck yeah! Although I'm ashamed to say I've done nothing this year. Giving birth on October 1 and then having to take it easy has really cramped my style. I pretty much couldn't bring the big ole tub of decorations up from the basement by myself. Next year, look out!

8. Do you hand out candy to the neighborhood kids? Absolutely! This year will be our first opportunity in a while. There were never trick or treaters at our old house, so we always just took Maggie trick or treating at the neighborhood where I grew up. Our new subdivision is supposed to be very into the whole thing though and I can't wait!!

9. What's the favorite age you've been, so far? All of em! If I wasn't having a good time, I was probably learning a good lesson ;)

Saturday 9

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: I Wonder What She's Doing Tonight

1. Have you ever lost a lover and spent way too much time wondering what they were doing? Umm...."way too much time"? Nah. Too busy, usually!

2. What was your favorite vacation ever? Tough call. Probably visiting friends in the Bahamas when Maggie was little.

3. Do you like surprises? If yes, what kinds? Or are you one of those people who absolutely has to know what's going on before it happens? I don't think I get too many surprises. I think I've liked the ones I've gotten, but none have been too over the top.

4. Have you ever written a poem? Feel free to share one. Or even a dirty limerick is OK. I've taken creative writing classes and written poems, but none worth sharing here :)

5. Did anything interesting show up in your mail lately besides the bills? Chocolate, today!

6. How many of your friendships have lasted more than ten years? Which of your current friends do you feel will still be important to you ten years from now? Family members don't count. Wow. I can think of one close friend I've known that long. I think I'll still be in touch with more of my current friends ten years from now, since our kids are also friends.

7. Do you own a pet? If so, do you buy them presents for holidays? Do you consider your pet(s) spoiled? If you don't own one, do you think you will one day? We own a cat. She doesn't frequently get presents. I don't think she's spoiled...

8. It's Friday afternoon and you're planning your weekend. What's on your agenda on a hot August night? Maybe a chocolate show. Probably surfing the internet. Perhaps watching a Netflix movie? We're animals!

9. What's your worst nervous habit? Hmm...Nothing particular comes to mind.

Saturday 9: Little Miss Can't Be Wrong

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Little Miss Can't Be Wrong

1. Who was the last person you dealt with who felt that they could never be wrong? Dunno...

2. Tell us about one person who is the most like you. Hmm...There's a girl I've only met once or twice, but when we did catch up, we found that we'd worked in the same places, gone to the same schools, and knew the same people, but never at the same time. She's pregnant with her second child now. I'm optimistic ;)

3. What is something you really want right now? Hubby to be happy.

4. What are you doing this weekend? Working my patootie off, it seems like. Chocolate shows every day...

5. Are you in a good mood? If yes, Why? Sure! Booked another show today for September, and did everything in my power to see hubby and Maggie happy tonight. :)

6. Do you have an ex that you are pretty sure thinks about you a lot? Nah.

7. What's one thing you wish you could do but can't? Get a good tan.

8. What's one trait you hate in a person? Taking advantage of social assistance systems. Or not doing what they can to help themselves.

9. What's one thing you like to do alone? I don't think there is much I do alone. Does going to the bathroom by myself count? I'd like to try that sometime.

Welcome Back!

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Saturday 9: Welcome Back

1. Where were you the last time that someone welcomed you back? Last night when I got home :)

2. Tell us who is you favorite non-family member to hang out with? No one person jumps out. I don't spend a lot of time hanging out with non-family members. The ones I do are of equal enjoyment ;)

3. What was the last thing that happened to anger you? The babysitter for Maggie was late yesterday. After I was done being panicked, I was angry.

4. What was the last thing that you saw that was shocking to see? How empty the parking lot was at Quicken the other day since they've moved their offices downtown.

5. What is your favorite thing to do on Saturday besides Saturday 9? I remember sleeping in and I'm pretty sure I really liked it.

6. Have you had your summer vacation yet? If yes tell us about it. I took a short trip to chocolate conference and visited some friends on the way. Philadelphia was a great city to visit, and hanging out with friends is fun anywhere!

7. Pick out one of your cousins and tell us about them. Wow. I've got more than 30 first cousins - pick just one? My cousin Jennifer lives in California with her husband and adorable twins. If she lived closer I think we'd get along well and be able to hang out. :)

8. Do you have any special plans for next week? I've got lots of chocolate work next week! And then on Saturday is my Pampered Chef party. (I put in my link so if you need to order anything I'll get credit - yay!!)

9. At what age will you consider yourself old and why? I'm getting there fast. Because it's the truth ;)

Saturday Nine

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we’ve committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do “random questions,” so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don’t have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today’s meme!

Saturday 9: Jumping Someone Else’s Train

Want to join in? Then head on over to Saturday 9.

1. When was your last train ride? Actually, Maggie was thrilled to death to ride the People Mover earlier tonight.

2. How many foreign countries have you visited? Tell us about one. Let's see...Canada (that's a given, living in Michigan), Bahamas, a couple of cruise ports, Germany and Austria. Austria was sort of a day-trip when we were living in Germany for a few months back in 2007.

3. What do you always take with you on vacation? A few books to read and a camera.

4. Tell us about something you’ve lost recently. My focus and motivation - hoping to find them again soon and whip them back into shape!

5. Do you prefer action packed vacations or relaxing ones? Relaxing, definitely.

6. How long will you wait in a check out line before abandoning your purchases? Depends on where I am and what I need...

7. How old do you wish you were? I can't wish anything different than who I am - too much risk of losing some of what I love!

8. Do you consider yourself kind? Yes.

9. Tell us about your tattoos. Or if you had to get a tattoo, where and what would it be? I've got a sun and a moon (on opposite hips) and a daisy colored like the American flag (on my ankle). I'd love to get a small daisy with a pentacle at the center, but I'm not sure where yet.

Saturday 9

Today's Saturday 9 is Changes.

1. Tell us about one thing that you'd change about yourself if you could. I wish I could stay more focused. And had a flat stomach again.

2. Mattel decides to make a Barbie-like (or Ken-like) doll of you -- what would be the most important accessory or accessories they would absolutely have to package you with in order to portray your lifestyle? Maggie, of course.

3. Hey, do you like surprises? If yes, what kinds? I like good surprises :) I'm not so fond of bad surprises.

4. What was the last snail mail that you received that was significant? I got a package of books from USPS last week.

5. If you could pick out a brand new nickname for yourself, what would you choose and why? i have a hard enough time remembering the name I've got sometimes - I don't want to try and remember another one!

6. John Edward's mistress was on Oprah this past Thursday. She stated that no third person can break up a marriage, so it had to be broken before the two started doing the nasty. Do you buy that? Yes.

7. Do you think it is okay to keep secrets from your s/o? Nope. Very bad idea.

8. Have you ever played Truth or Dare? If yes, what's the weirdest dare that you did? I don't remember ever playing Truth or Dare!

9. What, in hindsight, the stupidest thing that you have ever done? Nothing that I'll admit here! My mom's reading! Hahahaha

Saturday 9: Have I Told You Lately That I Love You

1. When was the last time (in a romantic setting) you have told someone that you loved them? Within the last week, I'm sure.

2. Tell us about your very first romantic kiss. Oh my goodness. I think I was in my first boyfriend's car. I'd imagine that's pretty typical?

3. What was/is your idea of the perfect date? I'm not picky - it's more about the company than the activity.

4. What music would you prefer when you are “getting it on”? As long as I can't hear the baby crying, it's not really important to me. ;)

5. What is the most amazing experience you’ve ever shared with a partner? Yikes - that certainly is a broad question...but the first thing that comes to mind is that we've traveled the world together :)

6. Sex is best saved for: love, marriage, alcohol, days that end in “y”? Days that end in 'y'. But only with my husband.

7. Have you ever kissed a stranger? Not recently.

8. What's missing from your life? That winning lottery ticket...

9. Are you a giver or taker? A giver. But the question makes me wonder - would anyone honestly describe themself as a taker? Huh..

Saturday 9: Hurts So Good

1. Tell us about the last time you really got hurt. Well, this is still pretty fresh in my mind. My heart procedure on Wednesday was done through a cardiac catherization. Yeah, they slice through the largest vein in your body. No biggie there. My pain? You have to lie flat on your back (okay, you can elevate your head up to 30 degrees) for SIX HOURS with your leg out flat so the cut will start healing. My back cannot take that! As of about halfway into my six hours my blood pressure started coming in at 140/100 - way too high! Luckily my nurse believed me that it was just because of the pain. Once they gave me some motrin for my back, my blood pressure started coming back down to normal. By the time I was allowed to get off the bed, my husband had to almost carry me because my back and legs were so out of it and painful. :(

2. What's your oldest possession? Huh. I'm looking at one of my older possessions, sort of. It's the alarm clock I used to wake up to when I was little. Except it isn't the same one. I went to eBay and spent way too much for a replacement almost ten years ago.

3. Do you have any phobias? The honey bear. And I don't want to talk about it.

4. What values did your parents instill in you?
Lots of em! And then I went and made up some of my own that my parents have NO IDEA where I got them ;) I definitely credit my parents with my good work ethic and my respect for others.

5. What are your plans for Easter? We're getting up early to join my parents at church, then heading to their house for brunch and an egg hunt for the little ones. Then in the afternoon we'll head to hubby's mom's house for dinner.

6. I like sun more than snow. Okay. Me too.

7. Tell us about 3 fads from your teenage years. Yikes. Pegged pants. Fluorescent clothes. Big hair. Yes, I grew up in the 80s.

8. Tell us what is the most important attribute in a lover.
Consideration. And a sense of humor. Face it, sex can be very funny.

9. What new piece of technology have you resisted buying and what would it take for you to change your mind? I don't know if Wii counts as a new piece of technology, but I'd totally get one if they were...well...free.

Saturday 9: Sam's Last Stand of 2009

1. What did you think of 2009? Wow. Honestly 2009 was pretty darn rough.

2. What do you think was the news story of the year? Hahahaha...I don't really watch much news. I'm so afraid if I post any of the stories that come to mind, someone will laugh at my ignorance, so I'll leave this one blank. "Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

3. What happened this year that you never want to hear another word about? Plenty! Maybe why I don't watch much news. Most of the celeb and entertainment stuff gets annoying fast. Twilight? Yeah, I saw it, but I didn't scream a single time. Just a movie, folks. Jon and Kate? Don't need to feel like a dirty voyeur by being dragged into their personal life non-stop. Tiger? If he slept with everyone who's saying he did, he wouldn't have had any time to play golf! Again, it's his business, not mine.

4. What was your favorite song of 2009?
I'm so stuffed up on holiday carols right now that nothing else comes to mind!

5. What did you accomplish this year? Wow! Most of my 'accomplishments' are actually Maggie's, ya know? Although my chocolate business has been pretty successful, and that's my work!

6. Did you learn anything new this year? Of course!

7. What are you looking forward to in the new year? More fun with Maggie! She'll be turning three in July, and every day she's learning and showing me something new!

8. What are your plans for New Year's Eve? No special plans. And I'm quite okay with that!

9. What's the best thing you ever did on a New Year's Eve?
I usually enjoy whatever I choose to do! Last year hubby took me to see Wicked - what an awesome show!! A few years I spent partying it up at my parents' - that's always fun and low-pressure :)

Saturday 9: White Christmas

1. If you live where you get winter weather, do you prefer your Christmas to be white? If you never see snow, do you wish for it? I don't mind if it looks white out the window, but I don't like going out in it.

2. How many holiday cards did you receive from people you hadn't sent cards to, after the "mailing deadline?" Did you send a card anyway? I don't know what "mailing deadline" you're referring to....I make a list when I'm ready to send my cards out, and I stick to it.

3. When the clock strikes Midnight on New Year's, will you be at home, at a party, or somewhere else? So far I'm planning to be at home.

4. Have you ever taken the keys and driven home a friend that you felt was too drunk to drive? If not, do you think you would attempt to if that situation ever arose? Haven't done it so far. Now I think I'm getting too old to have such drunk friends. Maybe that means I am the drunk friend. Uh-oh.

5. Tell us about a gift that you either bought or made for someone else that you wanted for yourself! Hmmm...been thinking on this one for a few minutes already. Probably some of the toys I get for my daughter, but I still get to play with them, so it's all good :)

6. What chores do you have left for the holidays?
I still need to finish stuffing the stockings. And laundry is endless, of course...

7. If you could buy one gift for yourself where money was not an obstacle, what would it be? Just one? I'd probably get a new shower like hubby and I are getting for ourselves for the holidays anyway, but if money was not an obstacle, I'd get someone else to install it so hubby could spend more time with us instead :)

8. What is one of your family’s favorite holiday traditions? For my family now we're just getting started, but I'd love to continue doing advent jars with my daughter like I got to do growing up (we open one jar each day in December up til Christmas with a small gift in each).

9. If you could give a fellow blogger a holiday gift, which would it be and what would you give them? Tough one. Should I make my mom exempt, because I'd love to give her anything she wanted :) I'd love to give Kris a way to move to Phoenix ASAP and be with her husband...or the Rudstroms the perfect daughter for their family (without all the legal, time-consuming rigamarole)...or Stacey a fabulous book contract so she wouldn't have to worry about looking for a job and would know how valuable her words are :)
