Wednesday Hodgepodge
So Googling led me to Meme-Aholics, which brought me to From This Side of the Pond, who hosts Wednesday hodgepodge. So here goes my first post for a new meme!
1. Summer officially rolls in with the Hodgepodge, for those of us in the Northern hemisphere anyway. What song says summer 2012 to you?
I have to go with the Soup Dragons' Divine Thing. Probably because I listened to the Hotwired cd a lot one memorable summer.
2. What is the quintessential summer food?
Corn on the cob :)
3. I've spent a lot of time traipsing up and down the NJ turnpike in recent weeks. Did you know the rest stops on the turnpike are named after people who lived or worked in NJ? Clara Barton, Walt Whitman, James Fenimore Cooper, Molly Pitcher, Joyce Kilmer, Thomas Edison, and Grover Cleveland just to name a few. Of those I listed who would you most like to have known and why?
Huh. I hope I don't hurt anyone's feelings by saying that none of them really jump out at me...
4. At what age did you move out of your parent's house and what prompted the move?
Ugh. I commuted to college, so I didn't move out until I got married. Unfortunately, I think that's why I got married - I wasn't sure how to just 'move out.' That marriage lasted a whopping eight months, and after less than six months back at my parents' house, I got a place of my very own to move to.
5. What's more satisfying to you-saving time or saving money?
Money. Any time I save gets eaten too fast by tasks I never have time for ;)
6. Name something you think brings out the good in people.
That's phrased sort of like Family Feud. I think kids can frequently bring out the good in people.
7. This last question comes to you courtesy of Kathy at Reflections...are you taking a vacation or staycation this summer? If so where are will you go? If a staycation is on the calendar have you made any special plans to fill the time?
Nothing is actually on the calendar so far....

Thursday Thunks
1. Name 5 famous people that you wouldn't be you without them. Huh. This is the toughest one of the bunch for me. I've admired different people over time, and I suppose a lot of them have contributed a bit here and there to who I am or how I act/look. But I can't really think of five specific famous people to credit for it.
2. So yeah, did you hear Osama is dead? If you could take any letter out of the alphabet and have it never ever used again, which letter would it be? None of em! I love words, and therefore have to love letters!
3. If you were to swallow a guitar pick, would you tell anyone? Probably. I'm always down for a good story.
4. My tummy hurts. Do you know anyone that eats strange things like toilet paper, chalk or some other off the wall thing that shouldn't be eaten? Not personally...
5. Whats your favorite kind of noodle? I'd have to say macaroni, by association. Maggie always orders macaroni and cheese (even when places make it with a noodle other than macaroni - just sayin!).
6. So yeah, back to this Osama stuff. When someone says "the event that everyone will remember where they were when they heard the news", what event do you think of? September 11. Duh.
7. Someone last week mentioned that I don't have to have exactly 10 questions, so should I stop here? That would be fine...
8. Name 5 not-famous people that you wouldn't be you without them. Just five? My mom, my dad, my brother, my best friend from high school, my husband (current, just so there's no confusion), and Maggie...uh-oh, that's already six!

To join in, visit ...Curious as a Cat
1) When the power goes out, do you grab matches and candles or a flashlight first? A flashlight, so I can use it to look for the candles and matches if the power will be out for a while.
2) If you could personify and speak to your deepest, darkest fear, what would you say? Nothing. I don't want to spend any time with it.
3) You're gathering signatures for a petition - what's your cause? Mothers'/babies' right to options. My soapbox is always natural birth or breastfeeding. I feel there are still women being railroaded into a birth that's more convenient for hospitals and doctors, instead of celebrating birth as a natural process bringing new life. I'm sure I could say that all better if I was taking more time, but it's busy around here. ;)
4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT? I have a scar on the inside of the middle finger on my right hand. I got it by putting my hand through a glass door. I missed the handle when trying to run out and meet my dad as he got home from work. I was probably six or seven years old.

Here I Come!
I just saw Don't Take the Repeats doing posts about the 30 days of truth. Looks challenging, and I really have no intention on actually writing on all of them, but I'll give a swing at a few anyway.
Here's what the 30 days are, in case you're interested. They're some really thought-provoking truths, I think...
Day 01 Something you hate about yourself.
Day 02 Something you love about yourself.
Day 03 Something you have to forgive yourself for.
Day 04 Something you have to forgive someone for.
Day 05 Something you hope to do in your life.
Day 06 Something you hope you never have to do.
Day 07 Someone who has made your life worth living for.
Day 08 Someone who made your life hell, or treated you like shit.
Day 09 Someone you didn’t want to let go, but just drifted.
Day 10 Someone you need to let go, or wish you didn’t know.
Day 11 Something people seem to compliment you the most on.
Day 12 Something you never get compliments on.
Day 13 A band or artist that has gotten you through some tough ass days. (write a letter.)
Day 14 A hero that has let you down. (letter)
Day 15 Something or someone you couldn’t live without, because you’ve tried living without it.
Day 16 Someone or something you definitely could live without.
Day 17 A book you’ve read that changed your views on something.
Day 18 Your views on gay marriage.
Day 19 What do you think of religion? Or what do you think of politics?
Day 20 Your views on drugs and alcohol.
Day 21 (scenario) Your best friend is in a car accident and you two got into a fight an hour before. What do you do?
Day 22 Something you wish you hadn’t done in your life.
Day 23 Something you wish you had done in your life.
Day 24 Make a playlist to someone, and explain why you chose all the songs. (Just post the titles and artists and letter)
Day 25 The reason you believe you’re still alive today.
Day 26 Have you ever thought about giving up on life? If so, when and why?
Day 27 What’s the best thing going for you right now?
Day 28 What if you were pregnant or got someone pregnant, what would you do?
Day 29 Something you hope to change about yourself. And why.
Day 30 A letter to yourself, tell yourself EVERYTHING you love about yourself

I've Been Tagged!
First Tammy's four questions:
1. What is you favorite TV show? I have a few favorites, but none of them are on currently :(
I've liked Rock of Love (any season), 24 (all seasons!), and actually have Dark Angel (both seasons) on DVD.
2. If you could have anything in the world for dinner what would it be? Usually steak. Or sometimes seafood.
3. If you could change something about yourself what would it be? Hmm...I always have a hard time with questions like this. I like my life, what if changes I made changed how happy I am with my life? Scary...
4. What is your favorite number or color and why is it your favorite? I've always loved the number 13 (I never thought of a real reason for it to be my favorite, but it is my birthday), and usually like dark colors like black. But I like pink too :) Go figure.
Now it's my turn to ask four questions:
1) If someone were getting you a gift today, what would you most like to receive?
2) If you had $500 to give to one local charity, who would you give it to and why?
3) What's your favorite: Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate or White Chocolate?
4) Say you've got a magic gift certificate good for one gift, but it can't be for yourself or anyone in your immediate family...what gift would you get, and for whom?
And to answer these four questions, I tag:
Shannon and Randy at Life in the Smith Lane,

AnnMarie at Rudstrom Family Blog, and

I'm So IT!
1. Why did you start blogging? Wow, really? Way back in...March 2002 I started blogging because I had been spending a ton of my internet time on WrittenByMe.com (or maybe .org? Whatever) and it went away. So I decided to try out one of these here new-fangled bloggy thingys.
2. If you could travel any where in the world with no restriction of costs, where would it be and why? Somewhere warm and tropical, with a really slow pace. Cuz that's just how I'd like to roll.
3. Did you have a teacher in school that had a great influence on your life? If so, what? Hmm....The first one who always comes to mind is Mr. Johnson. After he was my teacher, I was his teacher's aid for two terms. One of them was during a really tough time and he sort of let me coast through that term. I needed the mental break and I'll always appreciate him.
4. If you could spend the day with a famous person, who would it be, and what would you do? I don't know. Maybe like that cute guy who picks up people at the grocery store and takes them home to make dinner for them and their family? (shut up - it's a real show!) Or a designer/organizer person. I'm not after a 'famous' person, but some mad skillz that I'm lacking...
5. Toilet paper — over or under? Over. Because the other way is wrong.
6. Name one thing in your life that you would do over if possible. I'm not sure. I'm afraid to say anything because I wouldn't want to lose most of what I have in my life right now. Who knows what one little change could cause...
7. Tell about your pets — if any. We have one fluffy calico cat named Audrey. Audrey takes way more abuse from Maggie and in much better spirits than I ever expected.
8. Do you live in a small town or a large town. (You don’t have to name the town.) I live in a suburb outside Detroit.
Hey - I remember this part! Now I get to tag more people :)

Sunday Stealing
Today I was reminded of the Sunday Stealing meme over at My Life as Mama Jodi. Today's specific meme was stolen from Minnestota Mom. One of the first Sunday Stealing memes was from her back on September 7, 2008. Minnesota Mom actually wrote this meme!
Instructions: Answer the Current Obsession category and then explain WHY you chose that response. Easy enough? Thanks as always for playing! (I've got to admit, a lot of these aren't really 'obsessions' for me, but it's late and I want to get this done, so some of them are more or less what comes to mind. Yeah. So much for following directions!)
The Current Obsessions Meme
Book: Several by Kristin Hannah. I hadn't heard of her before, but got a few from HouseParty.com - yay!
Snack: Popcorn – I think it's more Maggie's addition than mine...
Restaurant: Applebees. Two for $20!
Beverage: Cherry Coke - always and forever!
Decor: Anything not holiday right about now ;)
Actor: No real obsession..
Actress: See above...
Movie: Changes from day to day, but we see a lot of Snow White around here lately (my movie, but guess whose choice it is to watch it again, and again, and again)
TV show: Phineas and Ferb. Especially with popcorn. The short person here seems to think they just go together.
Hobby: Reading. It's easy enough to sneak in a few pages here and there.
Band: Death Cab for Cutie last week...and now it's popped back in my head again.
Song: I Will Follow You Into the Dark (by Death Cab for Cutie)
Meme: No favorites… they're just usually nice for changing up the writing pace.
Blog: Lots!
Lover: My hubby, definitely.
Friend: No real 'obsession' here. Wouldn't that be kind of creepy?
Quote: "You've got two options - get over it or die pissed." Applies to almost anything.
Peeve: Luckily I don't obsess over them, or I might go crazy.
Sport: Absolutely none.
Singer: Maggie! She does a great rendition of Old MacDonald lately. :)

Monday Crazy Questions

1.what is one thing that will put a great big ole smile on your face? Maggie. Without a doubt. Her latest is that she'll come in the room, say, "Boo. Did I scare you?" She cracks me up every time.
2.You're walking down the street toward a very familiar face. As you get closer you realize you do not remember this persons name at all. Do you speak with the chance that they'll want to stop and chat or do you pretend that you don't see the person? I don't 'pretend I don't see them,' per se, but I just keep walking...if they say something, great.
3. Are you the Rock or the sponge of your household? Yes. I absorb all the emotion, but I'm really only 'allowed' to be upbeat and positive for my daughter's sake. So I suppose I'm her rock, but also a sponge in general...
4. You have gone over to a friends for dinner. You look down at your plate and notice a great big ole hair hanging out from inside your sandwich. What do you do? Depends on how good of friends they are...Good friends I'd probably make a joke about it. People I just have to be nice to, I'd try to pull it out and eat around that spot...
5. If you HAD to name one....who would you say is your role model? Scarlett O'Hara. "I'll worry about that tomorrow."
6. Have you raised children? if so do you think your parenting skills were top notch or could have used a little help from Dr Phil?
I'm a parent of an almost two-year-old (only a few days left til she's two!). I don't think I'm doing too bad. There seem to be some pretty severe freak shows on Dr. Phil.
7. would your -(Past or present)- mate/spouse, significant other/whatever -say that living with you has been like a gentle breeze or more like a hurricane? I'd guess usually a gentle breeze. I hate conflict.
8. When you shop at the grocery store, do you always shop exactly by a list or just go helter skelter and hope that you get home with most of what you need? Usually helter skelter...
13 July 2009
Monday Crazy Questions

1. Do you have a tattoo...?? if so What and where is it??
if not do you have a secret desire to have one?
I have three tattoos. A sun and a moon on opposite sides of my hips, and a daisy colored in like the American flag on my right ankle.
2. You have been offered a free botox treatment...where do you have them put it?
No thanks!
3. Do you have a good luck charm? what is it?
Do you think it works?
Not really. I try to make my own luck by being prepared and willing to work for what I want!
4. When was the last time that you said something to someone that you REALLY wished you hadn't said?
Mostly just when I yell at Maggie, which really isn't very often. I feel bad every time.
5. The bath water is running, the phone is ringing, the dog is barking and there is someone at the door.....what do you do?
Continue running my bath, maybe check the caller ID and decide to answer. Ignore the door and make a note to myself to call animal control about the barking - we don't have a dog!
6. Your best friend from high school just popped in from out of town. Do you offer them a place to stay or suggest a hotel?
I have a totally inappropriate sense of humor, I know, and I'm sort of chuckling right now. I'd be kind of freaked out if my best friend from high school 'popped in'. She's dead.
7. Have you ever seen a ghost?
Yup. From number six. So I guess I'd have to say I didn't suggest a hotel ;)
8. Someone is driving in front of you rather erratically and slowing you way down...now you see that they are talking on a cell phone and checking themselves out in the mirror. The other lane is blocked off so you can not go around them. What do you do??
I slow way down and give them lots of room. I don't want them to take me with them when they crash.

It's a Good Idea!
Blogging is really fun, but it's even more fun having people browsing your post. I want to share some simple strategy to generate traffic.
Bloggers in some ways do direct audience to their site by joining forums, commenting on others' posts, leaving comments in chat widgets, join traffic exchange programs, and even others pay for traffic. Spending so much time blog hopping is exhaustive so people find ways to lessen the load.
Why not try this sort of chain links. If followed seriously it exponentially increases the number of back links to your site. Here's how:
- Try to make a post just like this one and mention this process.
- From the list of blog sites below remove the number 1 and move the rest in the list 1 step higher (i. e number 2 becomes number 1, and so on). Add your blog name in the 5th position. Don't forget to copy the links. (Here's my list-my site added in the end)
- List at most five of your friends blogsite here with link and inform them of this post and ask them to do the same. Here's my friends:

Random Tuesday Thoughts

I'm still sort of just wallowing in my unemployment today. Meh. I'm getting stuff done too, but it's not a quick adjustment for me.
The cleaning people are here cleaning my house now, so I feel exceptionally lazy.
As much as I LOVE Cherry Coke, I don't like the aftertaste.
Hubby got paid a day earlier than I thought, so I might put some mascara on and go out for groceries when Maggie wakes up from her nap. Maybe.
I'm trying really hard to be a positive person after a bunch of crap hit me this month, but I somehow still have a staggering apathy to some other people's problems. If I decide at a glance there's nothing I can do to help, I sort of shrug, say, "Huh," and move on. Sitting still dwelling on stuff just drains my positive energies (didn't that sound all new-agey and crap?)
I would really, really love to get a bikini wax, but there's no way I can justify it in the budget (as opposed to my hair cut scheduled for tomorrow?) (out of my head, mean little voice!!)
