Maggie's kidpik box - March 2018

Well, Maggie gets seasonal boxes from kidpik, but my last post was from June! Looks like I may have missed a winter box in between there....maybe fall too? Huh.

Let's just move on, shall we? Kidpik offers a 30% discount when you buy all in the box, AND you then get a free top in your next box! Unfortunately we won't have that coming next time, as we only kept a few items this time. The prices I give in my descriptions are before the discount.

Of course the first item to keep was our free top! Here she is with the Ruffle Sharkbite top in Plum (the free top) and the Ombre Stripe Legging in Dewberry (price $17.50). Unfortunately, we probably wouldn't have kept the top if it wasn't free. The fabric is a little thinner than she's comfortable with. She likes wearing a camisole with her tops, but of course she doesn't want the outline of the camisole to be obvious through the shirt. Otherwise I really liked the color and fit of this one. The leggings were almost too small (we've updated her info and sizes for next time). She also has a lot of leggings already, so we sent them back since we didn't love them.

The next outfit she tried on was her very favorite in the box, and she's worn the top to school a few times already. I don't know how it all snuck past me, but apparently the 'cold shoulder' tops are as popular for the teen and pre-teen set as they seem to be for women. They kind of missed my radar because I always worry about my bra strap showing. But this isn't about me. Maggie loves the Cold Shoulder French Terry Top in Azure Blue (price $16.50). The Lace Up French Terry Short in Azure Blue (price $12.50) are an identical fabric, but awfully short. They'll be great for baton practice, but I don't want that much of her tushy showing out around town. She's also wearing the Studded Bow Sneaker in Silver (price $29.50). Sorry I sort of cut them off in the picture. While the sparkle was tempting, the style with the giant bow was kind of goofy, so we sent the shoes back as well.

Next she left the shorts on and added the Side Tie Tee in White (price $12.50). This was another one that I thought was versatile, but she just wasn't comfortable in. The fabric was super soft, but thin. I can't blame her, really. I hate when I have to make sure my undergarments are perfectly adjusted for a shirt to look right. I'm the first one to tell her that if something isn't comfortable, get rid of it. Nothing looks good if you're spending all your time adjusting it.

Last but not least was this Think and Be Happy Tee in Light Heather Grey (price $12.50). We both just loved the message on this one! It's shown here with the leggings we sent back from earlier. I think she's worn this shirt a few times as well. Not really remarkable, but comfy and cheerful.

So to summarize, we kept four items (including the free shirt) out of seven total. The shoes were pretty much what made it 'worth it' to pass on the discount and mail a bunch back this time.

Maggie's kidpik Box - June 2017

Yes, summer has gotten away from me. LOL While I've been out enjoying it all, I haven't been writing about it as much. Kidpik is still my daughter's wardrobe of choice, and they've even started a referral program, so you can use my link for $15 off your first box!

I've got our spring/early summer box to tell you about now, and we just received another box for fall, so I'll bring you up to date on that one in the next week or so.

This is Maggie wearing the Hello Lace Tank in white. It's regular retail is $15.50, so if we had kept the whole box, it would have been $10.85 with the 30% discount. We did keep this shirt, and she's gotten plenty of wear out of it this summer. The different shades of blue in the print on the shirt made it go with her denim shorts super cute. We kept it.

The second item (and third, as it turns out) are a few she plans to wear to a wedding party tomorrow. It's the Garden Floral Flutter Dress in multi ($27.50 regular price, or $19.26 with the discount) which she's wearing here with the Beth Perforated Ballet shoe in white ($17.50 regular price, or $12.25 with the discount). Adorable! The picture here is at our local science center the day after the box came - she couldn't wait for our regular fashion show pictures. All of her dresses have been looking a little short to me lately, but I think that's the fault of her long legs. Hahaha... We solve it by always wearing biking shorts underneath in case she forgets how to sit still. This is a great summer-weight dress with a light lining. We kept it. She hasn't worn the shoes as much, but there's not a lot of call for ballet flats on a kid in summer. I think she'll get a lot more use from them now that school is starting back.

While I thought this Mini Floral Ruffle Back Top was super cute on her, she insisted the 'mini' in the name applied somehow to some of the measurements - it was a little snug in places and not very comfortable to get on and off. It's regular price would have been $17.50, or $12.25 with the discount. By her grumbling and squirming during the fashion show, I knew she'd keep finding excuses not to wear it again, no matter how cute I thought it was. We sent it back.

The last thing she tried on from this box was the Drop Waist Dress in Mazarine Blue (regular price $14.50, or $10.15 with the discount). I just didn't think this one was very flattering on her. Add that to the fact that she doesn't wear a lot of dresses anyway, and this was in the bag on its way back right away.

Besides these things, she also got a plain seamless tank in white (she wears camisoles and things like this nearly every day, so we kept it), and a pack of ponytail holders. Those things grow legs, so we collect as many as we can!

Overall, it was another successful box to give Maggie some new goodies to wear on her way into summer, and keep me out enjoying the beautiful weather instead of in stores hunting down something we could agree on.

Have you tried Kidpik yet? It's a super-fun, risk-free way to possibly get some shopping done without leaving home! They authorize your card but charge you nothing to ship it out to you, and they include a postage paid shipping envelope to send back anything you decide not to keep! One better, there's always a free gift (this time it was a bag of pins she's happy to be putting on her backpack). Even if you send back everything, you keep the gift. Use my link to get $15 off your first box! And let me know what you think of your box.

Maggie's kidpik Box - April 2017

Kidpik apparently knows kids, or at least my kid! Maggie's fifth box was another keeper. And she is definitely turning out to be an accessory girl. Her new denim jacket from this box was on our list to go buy anyway, and the item she was next most excited about was her new purse. Let's take a look at all seven new items.

The first outfit shown is the ModTie Front Blouse (retail price $17.50) with the Super Soft Skinny pants in white (retail price $17.50), and the Jonni Braided Sandal in silver (retail price $17.50). Remember, we get 30% off of every item when we keep the whole box! The blouse is super pretty and fits just right. There is a white lining through the body of it as well. The pants taught her an awesome life lesson right away - white pants must be worn with underwear that is as close to your skin color as possible ;). Good information for the rest of life. Don't look too closely at the sandals. She likes them, but in our house there's a rule that girls must have their toenails polished before sandal season. When the box was received, it was still pretty chilly in Michigan, so we hadn't bothered with getting our feet pretty yet.

Okay, let's get those feet out of the way for a minute - hahah... Here's the same outfit, but she's added the Foldover Bag in ocean wave (retail price $12.50). She loved this purse the minute she saw it, even if she isn't at the point where she carries a purse each day yet. The color is beautiful and a bit shiny, and it has a super-fun tassle that matches the material. There's room to store treasure both in the zippered flap, or in the compartment covered by the flap (if that makes sense). I like that it isn't disproportionately large for a nine-year-old, but still has enough room to be practical.

The other outfit was actually my favorite, and although my photography skills caught it a little sideways, I think it's a great picture of Maggie. Here she's wearing the same sandals again, with the coveted Jean Jacket in phoenix (and all this time I thought denim was denim colored.... anyway, retail price is $22.50), with the Good Vibes Foil Tee in radiant orchid (retail price $12.50), and the Knit Skort in navy (retail price $9.50). I love this skort! The fabric is super soft and flowy, but since it's still a skort we don't have to worry about which way it's flowing. The color is a super dark navy, and I actually looked at the style card to make sure it was navy and not black while writing this post. The denim jacket has already gotten the most wear of anything in the box.

All items together had a retail value of $109.50, but with our 30% discount for keeping it all, we got all seven items for $76.65. I'm all about new clothes for each season, without even having to leave the house. She has worn everything from the box except the sandals (hopefully it will warm up for the summer soon!) and the skort, but looking at the card and remembering the skort is in her closet is definitely encouraging me to remind her how great it will go with the t-shirt and jacket as shown, or so many other things in her closet too!

We're still so happy with our kidpik boxes. Have you tried it yet?

Maggie's kidpik Box - November 2016

Maggie's fourth kidpik box might just be the best one yet! I hope our lucky streak continues, as I loved my last Stitch Fix box too! After hubby had a couple of busts with Bomb Fell, I've almost got him talked into trying one of Stitch Fix's boxes for men. Wish me luck!

Maggie's first instant love from this kidpik box was the Christie Bootie Kids in grey. Their regular retail was $27.50. I'm sort of jealous, as I'd love a pair of booties like these for myself! Since she had them on almost before the box was all the way open, I think they ended up in every picture.

In this first picture, she has the beloved boots with the Chic Necklace Tee (regular retail $16.50) and the Bow Knit Skirt in navy (regular retail $15.50), topped off with the Bow Dot headband in navy (regular retail $3.50). Admittedly, none of these was her favorite. Personally, I thought the 'Chic is Cool' phrase on the shirt was sort of odd for a young girl. She thought it was supposed to be 'chick.' At least it's long-sleeved for winter. The skirt is a little longer than most skirts she has, while not quite being a maxi. Now that I'm looking at it all again, I don't think she's worn either of these pieces again since getting them. But we did keep the whole box.

This outfit was the favorite of Maggie and her dad and me. It's the Suede Hi Lo top in chili pepper (regular retail $16.50), with adorable Bouquet Floral Super Soft Skinny pants in navy (regular retail $19.50). Especially with the new booties, I can't say enough good things about this outfit. Not usually being very into current fashions myself, this looks exactly like a lot of the trendy outfits I'm seeing this season. I doubt I'd have picked out such fabulousness and paired it on my own. If you are another kidpik family, though, be a little careful with this shirt. Part of the reason we loved it was the super-soft feel. I think it's the exact same fabric as the holiday dress she kept from her last box. But it totally dyed her white camisole pink! They're both in the laundry now, so we'll see how it all turns out. I don't remember the dress staining anything, but the shirt sure did! She wore this outfit for our family's Thanksgiving celebration.

Last but certainly not least was this lovely Floral A Line dress in navy (regular retail $19.50). It's super-cute, and I really liked the length. I think we'll try to find a thin white blouse that she can wear under this one for winter. And of course everything needs to match the booties.

Overall, we liked the box! The items we wouldn't have kept without the discount ended up equaling less than the 30% discount for purchasing the whole box. So we kept it all! I also liked that instead of more iron/sew on appliques, the fun little goody bag included this time had textured stickers. Crafty things she can enjoy without my help are my favorite sometimes!

I'm impressed that kidpik has nailed it every time for us. They've saved me major shopping trips for the last several seasons. Between her boxes, the hand-me-downs she regularly gets from a friend, and a few things I can pick up locally (without making a mall day trip), she's got a wardrobe she enjoys, and I've got less tasks on my list!

Maggie's KidPik Box - August 2016

Hello KidPik! Still not sure on the schedule, but we always love an email saying a box is on its way, and I optimistically crossed 'clothes shopping' off of our get-ready-for-school list when the magical email came. :) This time, it worked out for me.

After loving a maxi skirt she got this summer, Maggie was excited to see this 'Ditsy Floral Tier Skirt'  in scarlet (regular retail $22.50). For her, it looks like her beloved maxi, but the lining makes it a bit more suitable for fall and winter wear.

We paired it with the 'Rhinestone Dolman Tee' in KidPik Navy (regular retail $10.50). It matched well, and she's already worn the shirt with jeans as well.

In the picture on the top right, you can also see the 'Flower Ballet Toe Cap with Bow Kids' shoe in navy (regular retail $19.50). While she really liked the look of this shoe, she said it was 'scratchy' at the back on one shoe. After trying on the rest of the box, we figured out it was cheaper to take the shoes straight to the resale shop than to send them back. And oddly enough, she picked out a very similar, but comfortable, pair of ballet flats there.

Maggie immediately declared that this 'Suede Pleather Dress' in chili pepper (regular retail $26.50) will be her Christmas dress this year. It fits great and is flattering, and she's right about the color - it's a very holiday-type red.
I suggested to her that it would also be adorable dressed down a bit with a denim jacket, and she loved the idea. We don't do a lot of really dressy stuff for the holidays, so we may actually combine her original idea with my warmer styling modification.

The 'Rhinestone Bracelet' in KidPik navy (regular retail $4.50) is very sparkly, and similar to the white one she got in a previous fix.
With 30% off by purchasing the whole box of all items, and jewelry for less than $5, it becomes ridiculous to send something with such a low retail value back!

Last but not least was the 'Classic Girl Rouched Tee' in light heather grey (regular retail $19.50), which we paired with the 'Straight Jean' in a lapis wash (regular retail $15.50).
She loved them both. I was glad, because she's had a hard time finding comfortable jeans lately and usually prefers leggings. This outfit had something for either option. The shirt is long enough to cover her tushy, but the rouching makes it look a bit more fitted than just another tunic.

Overall, it was a great box and really got Maggie ready for the new school year. We 'officially' kept everything for a grand total of $82.95 after the 30% discount for keeping it all. We took the uncomfortable shoes straight to the resale shop, but she has plans to wear the rest.

We were also pleasantly surprised that for the first time of our three boxes, she got a little beaded bracelet that says KidPik as her freebie, instead of more appliques. In all honestly, I don't know where the appliques are going, but they aren't getting sewn on by me. ;)

We would still recommend KidPik for school-age girl shopping.  Maggie is now nine-years-old and in fourth grade. She is so excited every time we get another box of new clothes delivered for her to model, so we can decide in the comfort of our home what will stay and what will go.

We can't wait for our winter box!

Maggie's KidPik Box - June 2016

Maybe I'm missing something on the KidPik website, but I really don't get their scheduling. It may be a result of the massive number of signups, or my flightiness, but I was a bit confused on when I should expect another box. I didn't know if our April box was spring or summer, but the clothes seemed summer-ish for Michigan, so I thought we may be done til fall. Color me pleasantly surprised when I got an email that her next box would be arriving June 22!

Maggie, of course, loved more of it than I did, but we reached a nice compromise. Here the Lace Pocket Hoodie is shown, which she thought was fabulous. It was a cute jacket, and the lace detail on the pockets was unique, but it is definitely summer in Michigan now (ignore the fact that it's suddenly 65-degrees today). I opted to send back this cute jacket that had a retail price (vs the keep all price) of $22.50.

Her modeling of the next outfit also highlighted several pieces in the box. The shirt she's wearing is the Friendship T (retail price $12.50), with pictures of laid out friendship bracelets on it. The shorts are the Super Soft Short in Button Blue (retail price $12.50). They looked great, but she said they weren't very comfortable. She's also wearing the Melvie Braided Sandal (retail price $17.50). At first she thought they were actually too small, but then she wiggled around a bit and said they fit, but again weren't very comfortable. Back it all goes!

The little inset on the right was definitely a keeper, though. She loved the Studded Wrap Bracelet in White (retail price $4.50). It is a long strip of several strands of white with lots of bling on it and snaps together. She loves it and has already worn it out a couple times.

The shorts and shoes in this picture are the same ones we already said we sent back earlier.

The tank, however, is the VNeck Tank in White (retail price $8.50) and we kept it! The fabric is soft and comfy, and the back detail was super cute. I also like that the length is a little longer so her tummy stays covered. We'll see how long the white lasts, but maybe we can just tie-dye it at the end of summer. LOL

This Chevron Maxi Dress (retail price $27.50) was Maggie's favorite item in the box. I thought it might look a little big on her, but then I realized the straps are adjustable when I went to cut the tags off. Either way, how can I deny that smile? ;)

Overall, we kept three items (dress, tank top, and bracelet) while sending back sandals, shorts, a jacket, and a shirt. Our cost out of pocket was $40.50.

Remember, with KidPik if you choose to keep all of the items, you get 30% off of it all. And we still got our cute lil bag with three appliques as well. A nice perk, but not one I've been actually using so far. Thanks, KidPik!

Maggie's KidPik Box - April 2016

FINALLY!!!

Rumor has it, KidPik was inundated at their launch with box requests. We signed up in early March, and my daughter started asking for her box about two days later.

Fast forward to the second week of April, and her box arrived - and it was worth the wait!

She wanted to love it all - and we got pretty close. KidPik was also very true to their word - they emailed at the end of March apologizing for the wait, and promising us something extra in the box. While Maggie was hoping for a Kindle (HA!), she really likes the extra shirt that was in for the wait. While it's our first box and I can't be sure, there was also a cute bag with three iron-ons that looks like it's their 'regular' bonus for the kids.

Let's see the outfits!

This was our favorite outfit from everything. The Gingham Tie Front Shirt (regular price $15.50) was super-cute, and absolutely Maggie's style. I'm hoping it doesn't want ironing. She couldn't wait to wear it to the Harlem Globetrotters game yesterday so it's in the washer now - we'll find out!

The pants are five-pocket Knit Pants in a rich color called blue ribbon. They are styled like jeans, but buttery soft material like stretch pants. She says they're a little big, but I'm guessing most of her other leggings are a bit small. These had a full retail price tag of $14.50.

I'm stating these as regular prices because if you buy the whole box, you get a 30% discount on it all! Shipping to return anything you don't like is free, and a bag is included for this purpose.

Maggie was very excited to try on this Floral Embellished Scuba Dress ($32.50), but it ended up being the first thing to go in the 'send it back' pile. The material is weird, for lack of a better word. The bottom doesn't even need to be hemmed, as the 'scuba' material is like a foam. It makes it feel heavy for a summer dress. When I showed it to hubby, he didn't think it was that odd, but it wasn't something Maggie wanted to wear, and I agree with her.

Interestingly enough, the skirt in this picture is also called a Flower Scuba Skirt ($15.50), which leads me to believe the fabric is similar to the odd pink dress. I didn't really notice, and Maggie has the skirt on at school today, so I can't check again. She loves the skirt, although I've already said about five billion times - "It's a skirt, not a skort. Sit like a lady!!" It's still early enough in the spring here in Michigan that she's wearing leggings with it today. Not sure if that will give her a chance to create good habits, or a good excuse not to worry about them. LOL

The shirt was in her 'send back' pile just because it didn't make much of an impression. It's the Love Tee in white ($12.50).

Also in this pic are the Glitter Braided Headwrap ($1.50) that she said she didn't need (mostly because she usually doesn't wear anything in her hair), and the Pandora Metallic Gladiator sandals ($27.50), which she LOVES the look of. One day of wear convinced her that they make her feet sweat, so I'm not sure how much she'll actually choose them. They came in an very cute mini-backpack style cloth bag.

Last but not least was the Lace Trim Swing Top, which I'm assuming was free for the wait. There is no price for it on the item description sheet. Luckily she also loved it. It will go great with her many leggings, and I love the swing style for covering her butt in leggings and similar styles like the pants from earlier (shown again in this picture).

Overall, we had a GREAT experience with KidPik. As I mentioned, there's a discount for purchasing the whole box! For Maggie to get the things she really liked (skirt, pants, sandals, gingham shirt, and swing top) would have been $73 at regular retail. When I asked her, she said she'd wear the t-shirt and headband that she didn't love if they were here. So we are getting the whole box for $83.65 and selling or donating the pink dress. Of course she's ready for another box ASAP, but we did shopping the old-fashioned way when we got ready for a Florida trip in February, so we'll probably wait til closer to fall.

Have you had a great (or horrible) experience with a subscription box? Let us know about it!
