Looking for a Good Book?

I'm almost finished reading The Lonely Polygamist (the author's name escapes me right this minute...). It's been a great read so far - definitely not fluff. I only have a little bit left, and I'm not sure how/if he's going to wrap up some of the loose ends. For instance, one part that doesn't seem to contribute a lot to their ongoing story besides how it shapes their personalities potentially and some of the health stuff is when they discuss the nearby bomb testing and its radioactive fallout.

I should know soon if it's a bigger contributor to the plot than I've spotted so far...
