Sunday Post - 7 June 2020

Welcome to Sunday! I've been reading my tail off more than blogging lately, so it's been a while since I checked in with a regular weekly post ;) Today I'm joining the list of bloggers over at Caffeinated Reviewer for Sunday Post. Come visit a few and find out about this week around the world - and bloggers love comments, comment on a few posts and make some bloggers smile this week :)

I'm officially done with work! My department is serving one more day (tomorrow) for children in the district, and then they're having a send-off of sorts on Tuesday. Both the department director and the administrator are retiring this year. While I think both women are great, I'm sitting out the gathering to limit my exposure to people.

And part of the reason I'm limiting my exposure when I can is because we've invited our families over to celebrate hubby's and my birthdays at the end of the week. So far it's just my parents and his dad attending. It feels weird planning my 'exposures' to the outside world, but it also feels like the right thing to do.

In a full-disclosure and mixed messages kind of week, Maggie and I chose to attend the local anti-racism and black lives matter protest in our town on Friday night. It was so powerful to be there with so many like-minded community members. Emotionally overwhelming, to be completely honest. But when you're living through the largest civil rights movement in world history, how can you not try to support those who need it?!?

Last Week on the Blog

Reviewed The Goldfinch (4.5/5 stars), This Won't End Well (3.5/5 stars), and A Royal Kiss & Tell (4/5 stars).
Also reviewed Hide Away (4/5 stars) at Books I Think You Should Read. There's also a giveaway on this one that ends tomorrow (June 8).

This Week on the Blog

Just finished reading Always and Forever, Lara Jean (4/5 stars). I really enjoyed this series. There are already movies on Netflix for the first two books, so hopefully this one will follow soon (it's the third and final book in the series).
Starting The Conference of the Birds (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children #5) once I'm done posting and commenting on a few blogs, and will probably finish and review before the week is out.
Last but not even close to least, hoping to start on either White Fragility or White Rage to participate in the Blackout Buddy Read with Books with Shae (the link is to her video kicking the whole thing off. I couldn't find just a 'page' link. I don't do a lot of YouTubers...).

Around the Blogosphere

In addition to reading books at a quick pace lately, I've also read LOTS of articles about the United State's poor excuse for a President, Black Lives Matter,  and the global pandemic. Yes, this is all still going on, at the same time.

My Birthday Week

Are you just here because you were wondering about gift ideas for my birthday next weekend? Tieks (size 9, but probably won't get here in time), new makeup (a BB or CC cream with sunscreen, great mascara, and great water-resistant eyeliner), new flip-flops (the thick ones like I already have, but without all the holes in the bottom), and anything on my Amazon wish list (especially the things that aren't books - I get a lot of books from the library or on my kindle).
There - aren't you glad you asked? :P

Hope your life is feeling good for you. Safer at home? Excited to get out? Whatever. Just love each other, k?

Yay! Enjoy your summer and your birthday! We are also trying to have no exposure. We just stay home. I hope the protesters will be ok and not have more COVID spread. I support their efforts.

Happy birthday (a bit early)! Enjoy your time with others. It feels precious to spend time with other people now.

I admire all of those who participated in the protests. I decided to take action in other ways, simply because I'm old and don't feel good being out among so many people.

And I am sure you are thrilled to finish your work. Enjoy!

Like you, I've been extremely cautious when it comes to exposing myself to COVID, but I still attended a local BLM protest. I agree that it's important enough to take the risk.

Happy upcoming birthday! (To you and your husband.)

Congrats on finishing work! That has to feel so great. I know what you mean about planning and limiting your exposure. My husband and I have been doing the same, just to be on the safe side, especially since we have family who are high risk.

Happy Early Birthday!

Happy birthday and enjoy your summer. It is wonderful on the one hand to be a part of history in the making. On the other hand, I am thinking carefully about what I am willing to do with some high-risk people in the family. The virus is still out there and I hope that we will all stay safe and well until the vaccine is here. Happy reading and stay safe and well.

Did you have your parties yet? It is odd to have to worry about exposure but I kinda do that before leaving for a trip. Glad you have this summer to relax and enjoy. Do you have any vacations planned?
