Daria, My Favorite Teen Drama - A Guest Blogger Post

Guest written by our friend Trent Horton
Daria Morgendorffer is a typical teenager attending the fictional Lawndale High School. The series follows Daria and her best friend Jane Lane as they make their way through four years of high school. During the four years, they befriend many of the average American high school students, the jock, the cheerleader, the musician, the rich spoiled girls, and many other characters. Both Jane and Daria become fast friends when they realize that they share the same dry sense of humor, as well as their less than positive view of the world.
Daria and Jane have a friendship that many people envy, and faces the ultimate test during the fourth and final season. When Jane begins dating Tom Sloane, Daria feels left out of the fun that the new couple is experiencing. Daria does not hide her resentment towards Tom, often resulting in snide remarks made towards the two. The series ends with a twist, and Daria and Tom ultimately end up dating.
What is interesting about the show is that I felt a strong relation to the main character Daria, despite being male. The strength of the show comes from being able to relate to Daria and what she faces while attending high school. Although there has not been a new episode of Daria since 2002, reruns can be found on DVD or on direct tv corpus christi late at night.
