Five Things for Friday - November 8, 2024

Happy home-for-Friday to me! I had today off in order to speak at my 7th grade son's middle school career fair, but then after the week I was having, I needed yesterday off too, so I'm settling pretty well into my weekend about now :)

  1. Almost my whole costume has arrived! My son and I are going to Motor City ComicCon tomorrow. He is wearing the costume he made for Halloween - Bill Cipher from Gravity Falls, so I've ordered what I need to dress up as Mabel Pines from the same show. Hopefully, pictures to share with my post on Sunday.
  2. I've been thinking a lot about writing more - which reminded me of NaNoWriMo. A quick Google search shows me that it still is happening. Has anyone else tried to write a novel in a month? I think I joined twice. Never quite finished, but it was fun to make writing a solid part of my month when I was participating.
  3. I'm not going to say anything about the election. I'm still too devastated to give it much thought. Que sera, sera. But I'm not happy to know I share this world with so many idiots and assholes. Oops. Wasn't going to say anything. Moving on....
  4. Still going about my job search in spurts, bursts, and jolts. Got another message that a job I had applied for was just canceled. Yay. So I think I've applied to nine jobs this year. One (within my company) still  shows as pending, but I never actually got any more response than an automated message, and there were two openings that have been filled. Six I got nice 'we're going with another candidate' on just application/resume review (no interviews). Two (including one with an interview scheduled) were subsequently canceled, or just no longer hiring at this time. Two of the nine were government-ish jobs, and I'll certainly shy away from those with so much change coming in the new year.
  5. I'm trying to start directing energies to holiday stuff! We've packed up most of the Halloween (just realized as I walked through a room that there's still a spider web on the chandelier that is most certainly fake). I've started the kids' advent calendars, and ordered a couple of gifts. Next up (maybe still this weekend?) will be starting on the inside home decorations. I still have lots of candles and decorations of that sort from my years as a PartyLite consultant.

I've done NaNoWriMo many times, but I've only really written every day twice. I fully intended to do so this month, but, oh well, life.

Trying not to think about the election...

I'm doing career day next Friday! Whew. Have fun at ComicCon!
