Medical Progress

I remember being impressed with how small my scar was after my back surgery in 2006. I had a discectomy on my L5/S1 disc (translation: they trimmed a disc at the bottom of my spine to keep it from irritating my nerves anymore). Hubby and I joke that I just have an exceptionally tall butt-crack.

Now I hear about laser spinal surgery and wonder if even my little scar will someday be considered a side effect from surgery in the dark ages. Like how you can recognize someone's age by the small-pox vaccine scar? Hahahaha...hardly the dark ages, but it would mean you're older than I am. (And I find I can say that less and less often lately!)

That's like my mom's gall bladder surgery scar. It's a huge scar across her abdomen. Now they do it through your belly button :) - steph
